Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is designed to prohibit discrimination based on disability in any program or activity receiving federal funding. This statute obligates public schools to provide equal access and equal opportunity to qualified persons with disabilities. For a student to be eligible for a 504 plan, the student must meet all three of the following criteria and, because of his/her disability, must need accommodations to gain equal access to and/or benefit from school programs and services.
The criteria include:
- A physical or mental impairment
- The impairment substantially limits function in the classroom
- Impairs on one or more major life activities or major bodily functions including caring for one's self, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, working, performing manual tasks, and learning.
If you believe that a student may be eligible for Section 504 support, please contact your child's school counselor.

Transition Services

CCA started a Transition Alliance Program in collaboration with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services in July of 2022. Since its inception, we have expanded our service to support 9th-12th grade students who qualify. Our TAP Coordinator, Kelsey Portwine and TAP job coach work with high school teachers, parents, IVRS staff and community businesses and members to provide pre-employment support services through a child’s IEP or 504.
