Mackenzie Burnett is KCRG Student of the Month

Clear Creek Amana High School senior Mackenzie Burnett has been named KCRG-TV9’s Student of the Month, recognized for her leadership, compassion, and perseverance.

Mackenzie serves as the drum major for the CCA marching band and is deeply passionate about music — a passion that has led her to perform in a variety of musical groups and even at the Iowa State Fair through the Bill Riley Talent Search.

Beyond her musical accomplishments, Mackenzie is known for her generosity and service to others. After watching coverage of Hurricane Ida in 2021, she and her 4-H group organized a donation drive that collected four tons of supplies for families in Louisiana. She has also volunteered in Kentucky for the past two summers, helping rebuild homes for families in need.

“Mackenzie truly has a servant’s heart,” said CCA Band Director Christopher Copeland. “She’s always focused on what she can do to help others and make a difference.”

Despite personal challenges — including periods of homelessness — Mackenzie has remained positive, determined, and focused on helping others. She plans to pursue a career in music education, inspired by the teachers who encouraged her throughout her journey.

“Even though you’ve struggled at some point, you can use that struggle to help others,” Mackenzie shared.

Congratulations to Mackenzie on this well-deserved honor!
