CCA FFA 41st Annual Legislative Symposium Post Panel

FFA members from across Iowa converged on the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines to build character and promote citizenship, volunteerism, and patriotism. More than 700 high school students wearing FFA blue corduroy jackets from many schools visited the Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines on January 21nd. The students visited with legislators, exhibited skills learned in the agriculture classroom and learned the importance of citizenship. This was all part of the 41st Annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol. Clear Creek Amana students in attendance were Courtney Williams, Tate Riggan, Sydney Pfeiffer, Audrey Bulechek, and Hayden Coughenour.

During the morning, FFA members gathered at the Downtown Embassy Suites and enjoyed a brief message from the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mile Naig. Mike gave a speech about the importance of agriculture in Iowa and how it boosts our economy. He also spoke about the importance of keeping Iowa strong and multi-generational farms. Members also heard from Jake Swanson, Jake talked about how to lobby and effectively spend your time with the representatives.

The Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter then traveled to the Capitol and met with representatives and senators from District 91, including Dawn Driscoll, Heather Hora, and Judd Lawler. Members had the opportunity to ask questions about their local communities and beyond. They also provided feedback on proposed bills to advocate for their community, school, and peers.

The 41st Annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol was made possible with support from Iowa Farm Bureau Federation through the Iowa FFA Foundation.
