The school board approved the school calendar at the December 18, 2024 school board meeting.
There are several factors to be considered when building the calendar. Students must have a minimum of 1080 hours of instruction every year. Teachers must have 188 contractual days. Iowa schools may not begin their first day of school prior to August 23rd. The proposed calendar meets the number requirements presented above and also has an additional 26.59 hours. These hours are utilized to "make up" missed school hours due to weather or other situations. A full school day equates to 6.67 hours and a Wednesday/Early Out equates to 4.67 hours. The District would have 3.99 extra days for making up missed days. The public hearing was conducted on December 4, 2024.
