Haman Makes CCA FFA History

Haman at State Fair

Although the Iowa State Fair was postponed until the 2021 fair season. Organizers at the Iowa State Fair put on the Iowa State Fair Special Edition a livestock show for Iowa’s youth. The livestock show was for 4-H and FFA members only who had nominated livestock by May 15 to be shown at the Iowa State Fair.

Grant Haman, son of Jon and Laurie Haman showed in purebred Angus Heifer at the Iowa State Fair Special Edition in the FFA Breeding Beef Division. Grant has been involved with the Clear Creek Amana’s FFA Chapter since it started in 2018. Grant is the first ever Clear Creek Amana FFA member to exhibit at the Iowa State Fair Special Edition FFA Show. Grant and his heifer earned a purple ribbon at the fair. At the Iowa State Fair Special Edition FFA show a purple ribbon is the highest rating followed by blue, red and white. Grant’s heifer is part of his SAE (supervised agricultural experience). In SAE is a project and experiential learning activities that the student develops foundational career components. The basic components include but are not limited to career exploration, employability skills and college readiness, personal financial management, workplace safety, agricultural literacy and basic knowledge of the agricultural industry.

Grant purchased his heifer in January and has spent countless hours feeding her, maintaining her coat condition and exercising her. Being a breeding heifer Grant will take her back to his farm and add her to his herd. It's Grant’s hope that he will be able to show her prodigy sometime again at the Iowa State Fair Special Edition FFA Breeding Beef Show. Grant graduated high school this spring and is fortunate enough to be able to maintain his FFA membership until he is 21. FFA is a dynamic youth organization that makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. If you know a Clear Creek Amana high school student people encourage them to learn more about their local FFA Chapter.
