A Year review for Clear Creek Amana FFA

The local FFA chapter has been busy since last year’s National FFA week. When we highlight the activities that took place within our chapter, we can’t help but thank our community for all the support and encouragement.

MARCH

March of 2019 was spent preparing for FFA contest and attending District FFA Contest is Lone Tree. Our chapter participated in several events. The Secretaries Book received a silver and Maddie Anderson earned a silver in Job Interview. Several Clear Creek Amana FFA members participated in the greenhand test and served as chapter delegates.

APRIL

During April last spring students prepared for State FFA Convention. Several Clear Creek Amana FFA students competed in career development events at state convention. The Ag Sales Team earned a silver at state, the Clear Creek Amana Poultry Team received Silver, and one member participate in the State Greenhand test and earned a gold rating.

MAY & JUNE

May was a busy one for the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter, the students held their annual banquet where parents, members, and guests were recognized for accomplishments throughout the year. The remaining parts of May and June students spent time at home working on their supervised agricultural experience (SAE) and preparing for livestock shows. In June, our chapter officers attended District Chapter Officer Leadership Training where they found ways to improve our chapter. Also in June, the Clear Creek Amana FFA had a team of Katie Anderson, Kayla Jiras and Arron Feinberg competed in the State Horse Judging Career Development Event. Kyle Pitlick and Jackson Tandy also attended Washington Leadership Conference in Washington D.C.

JULY

July is a month where most of the Clear Creek Amana FFA chapter exhibits their projects at the Iowa County Fair or the Johnson County Fair. This year, several FFA members showed sheep, cattle, and photography at the fair. Several of the FFA members learned lifelong lessons while exhibiting their project and built friendships that will last a lifetime. Brevin Mehmen, Wes Quinlan, Katie Anderson and Kayla Jiras also participated in the livestock judging contest at the Johnson County Fair.

AUGUST

I’m sure you’re all aware that once August rolls around that summer is winding down and the first day of school is approaching quickly, but not until the Iowa State Fair comes to an end. This year we did not have any students show at the Iowa State Fair for the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter but we look forward to students

participating in livestock, farm crops, floriculture, horticulture and Ag Mechanics during the 2020 Iowa State Fair. Just before school started two Clear Creek Amana FFA members participated in State Livestock Judging at Iowa State University. Those students were Grant Haman and Kayla Jiras, since theirs only two students they did not receive a team score. In August school started and the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter welcomed a new group of 9th graders into the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter. During the first week of school, the Clear Creek Amana FFA hosted their first annual ice cream social to educate FFA members and parents about upcoming opportunities.

SEPTEMBER

September was just as busy as August with the start of the soil judging Career Development Event. Clear Creek Amana FFA members participated in the Quad County Soil Judging competition. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Soils Team of Alex Cox, Gracie Downes, Ainsley Schrock, Tyler Steines and Olivia Miller earned a gold and second place at the Quad County Soils Contest in the Junior Division. The students then attended the District Soils Contest and earned a silver. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Soils Team is already excited for the 2020 season. The chapter also created an awesome float for the homecoming parade. Thanks to Duston Anderson for providing the semi and tractors for the Clear Creek Amana FFA Homecoming Float.

OCTOBER

October is the start of new adventures for the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter. Clear Creek Amana hosted one of the largest FFA events in the Southeast District, Greenhand Fire Up. There were over 600 FFA members and advisors at the annually Greenhand Fire Up. The chapter’s freshman attended Greenhand Fire Up where students learned more about the FFA Organization and the opportunities that are available within the organization. This year the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter has five greenhand members, and we look forward to the memories that will be built with these students.

National FFA Convention is always a busy time for an FFA Chapter but this year was extremely busy for the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter. Six students from the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter attended National FFA Convention. While at National FFA Convention, the students attended sessions, leadership workshops and attended several educational tours.

NOVEMBER

During the month of November several Clear Creek Amana FFA members attended our monthly meeting and community service letter writing event for Veterans for Veterans Day. The FFA Chapter also prepared for its annual Soup Supper that is held during a home basketball game.

DECEMBER

During the month of December, the FFA chapter reached out to the community, and hosted the annual Clear Creek Amana Soup Supper. At the soup supper FFA members serve the community, chicken noddle soup chili, rolls and a cookie. It’s a free will donation event and all proceeds go towards the FFA Chapter to fund and pay for entries at several judging competitions, conventions and leadership events. The FFA members also started to prepare for this upcoming contest season. Four FFA members attended the Amplify Leadership conference in Ankeny.

JANUARY

January started off with the preparation of Supervised Agricultural Experience Records books and FFA Degree Applications. During the month of January the students are practicing for contest on February 18. The students have also started to work on planning for this spring’s State Convention. The students worked on their chapter display.

FEBUARY

Clear Creek Amana FFA members reached out to the community by selling meat, cheese and fruit. This year the students each set a goal of selling $500.00 to earn money for the FFA Chapter to do various events throughout the year. This year’s top salesmen were Grace Siems, Ainsley Schrock and Tyler Steines. The FFA chapter would like to personally thank everyone who supported the chapter during the 2020 FFA Fruit Sales.

February has been great so far for the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter. The students have continued to practice for Career Development Events. Several of the members will compete at District Contest on March 14 at Louisa Muscatine high school. During National FFA Week (Feb 24-28) the FFA chapter handed out Ag Industry Swag each day, hosted a faculty appreciation breakfast, and student dress up days during FFA week. We greatly enjoy your support towards our chapter and its members.
