Cox Carries CCA Soils Team 

 More than 150  FFA members from 12 schools competed in the Annual Quad County Soils Competition. The Soil Contest was held by the Soil and Water Conservation Districts from Iowa Keokuk Poweshiek and Mahaska Counties put on this event.

The Soils Evaluation Career Development Event included the evaluation of three soil pits, plus a written exam about soils in Iowa. The score card used to judge the soil pits is divided into five parts: Surface Features, Soil Features – The Profile, Land Capability Classification and Productivity Potential, Evaluation of Management Practices, and Sustainability of Soils for Non-Agricultural Uses. Students who perform well at this contest will advance to the district contest. The district contest is on Thursday October 29 at Muscatine. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Team placed second in the senior division. The team was composed of Alex Cox earning 1st overall in the entire competition, Olivia Miller place , Claire Bitz, Jay Halverson and Spencer Schrader.
