USDA Approves CCA For Free Meals Through 12-31-20

Dear CCA Families & Staff;

The USDA has approved FREE Breakfast and Lunch for all students through 12/31/2020 or until funding is depleted.  Your students enrolled in the Clear Creek Amana Community School District will not be charged for any regular school meals, both breakfast and lunch meals starting September 14, 2020.

Who is eligible for free meals?
All Clear Creek Amana students ages 18 and under will be eligible for free meals to include breakfast and lunch.  We will serve students attending on-site at all CCA buildings.

Virtual Learners are still able to pick up meals.  The pre order meal sign up form must be completed each week and meals picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The free meals are part of the Child Nutrition Program and are free for students only for this Waiver and does not include teachers, support staff or administrators’ meals, nor does this Waiver change the cost of these meals for adults.

How does this affect your student's school lunch status?
If your student is in full pay or reduced pay meal status, they will be temporarily moved to free status.  No meal charges will be made to the students account through 12/31/2020 or until the district is notified by the USDA and State Authorities that the funding is depleted.  No one really knows when this funding may run out, so like everything related to COVID, it will be a fluid process and we will notify families as soon as possible of any changes.  At that point the student's account will return to their original lunch status and charged accordingly.  All money placed in the meal account will carry over until regular meal prices resume.

Ala carte options will be available and charged to the student's meal account (extra milk and sack lunch milk at $.35).  Please add funds into the account to cover sack lunch milk and ala carte charges.  You can add funds to your student account using InTouch or send to school to be deposited.

How does this affect applying for free and reduced lunches?
We highly encourage Parent/Guardians to please fill out the Iowa Eligibility Meal Application online at LunchApp.com to apply for free or reduced meal status so when we return to charging for meals, you will still receive the appropriate meal benefits.
