Clear Creek Amana Students Attend 38th Annual Legislative Symposium & FFA Day at the Capitol

DES MOINES, IOWA—FFA members from across Iowa converged on the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines to build character and promote citizenship, volunteerism, and patriotism. More than 600 high school students wearing blue corduroy from 100 schools visited the Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines on January 31st.

While in Des Moines the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter toured the Hall of Laureates and the World Food Prize Foundation. While at the Hall of Laureates our phenomenal tour guide Jody told the students of the rich history of Dr. Norman Borlaugh, an Iowa Farm kid from Cresco Iowa who ended up saving the world from starvation through the Green Revolution. Jody spent time explaining that as youth the students must aspire to be something more than just mediocre. The students were honored with the presence of former Governor of Iowa and former American diplomat of China Terry Brandstad and Ambassador Kenneth M. Quinn from the World Food Prize Foundation. While meeting with these Iowa leaders they spoke to the Clear Creek Amana students about the importance of having ways and means to transport our Iowa’s Agriculture Commodities and the importance of keeping the doors open to all opportunities. Ambassador Quinn encouraged the students to lead by example and embrace the challenges that might lie ahead of them. Great Iowa people rely on great young leaders.

The students visited with legislators, exhibited skills learned in the agriculture classroom and learned the importance of citizenship. This was all part of the 38th Annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol. The Clear Creek Amana students also spent time with Senators Dawn Driscoll, Heather Hora and Brad Sherman. Clear Creek Amana students that attended the Legislative Symposium were Delaney Bulechek, Taylor Drake, Katie Evans, Hannah Gross, Kelsey Leathers, Averi Haddock, Marinda Phan, Lexi Mora, Olivia Webb. This Annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol was made possible with support from the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation through the Iowa FFA Foundation.
