CCA Weather Guidelines

The safety and well-being of students and staff is our top priority and the decision to close, delay, or release school is no simple matter. Before deciding to modify the school day due to extreme weather conditions, the Superintendent or designee consults with a variety of experts both inside and outside of the District. Our commitment is to keep students, families, and staff safe, and to keep the community informed of weather-related school closings, delays, and cancellations in a timely manner.

The District must make one decision that is appropriate for more than 3,200 students. We recognize that this decision may not always fit with individual circumstances. Therefore, we support parents/guardians in making the best decision for their families.  Parents/guardians may choose to keep their children at home if they are concerned about their child’s safety due to weather conditions. In this event, they must notify the school.

Please note that we continually monitor the forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) in order to make the best decision for students, staff, and families in a timely manner. The NWS’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) wind chill index chart is utilized in the District’s decision-making process. The NOAA wind chill index chart can be found under Appendix A of these guidelines.

Family Communication:

We will use the following methods to communicate with families during an emergency:

Finalsite (email, text, & phone): We will provide updated information as it becomes available to all families using the contact information in PowerSchool. Finalsite fully integrates with PowerSchool, and families are automatically opted in to receive notifications.

CCA Mobile App: Any community member subscribed to our CCA mobile app will receive a push notification of weather related announcements.

Website (ccaschools.org): Emergency messages and updates will be posted on the district homepage as they develop.

Facebook (@CCAClippers): Messages will be posted as quick as possible to our Facebook page.

Local news media: Messages will be posted as quick as possible to local media.
