Public health and CCA health staff collaborate to complete contact tracing as soon as possible, but the process may take 1-2 days depending on the case loads. If the district suspects a student or students may be close contacts, we will take every effort to notify the parents of those students and will recommend quarantine for 14 days since last date of exposure. Public health will do a more in-depth investigation with the positive student, and, in some cases, may determine that those initially identified as close contacts do not meet criteria and may be released early.
Only individuals that are identified as close contacts will be notified about positive COVID-19 cases in the District. Appropriate actions will be taken, in accordance with District protocol, to thoroughly clean, sanitize, and disinfect any impacted areas. Classes will continue for those who have not been identified as close contacts, unless announced otherwise.
Q. Why do we only get general communication for classroom, team or building positive cases and not every individual case?
The United States Department of Education has stated in their guidance FERPA and the Coronavirus Disease 2019, “. . . we caution educational agencies or institutions to ensure that in releasing such facts, they do so in a manner that does not disclose other information that, alone or in combination, would allow a reasonable person in the school community to identify the students who are absent due to COVID-19 with reasonable certainty.” Only individuals that are identified as close contacts will be notified about positive COVID-19 cases in the District. At times, the number of individuals impacted by COVID-19 may necessitate the District to close a classroom, building section, or entire building. If a closure is announced and a subset of students are moved to virtual learning, then further communication will be shared.
Please answer the phone if the County Health Department or school contact you. A Contact Tracer may be trying to reach you with important information. Without student and parent cooperation, the process will likely take longer.
