Tiffin, IA - Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate presented the Carrie Chapman Catt Award to Clear Creek Amana High School Seniors, soon to be first-time voters, in the CCA Performing Arts Center today. The award goes to any school that registers at least 90% of eligible students to vote.  Travis Weipert, Johnson County Auditor, assisted in the presentation. 

The students were reminded that their voice matters!
 
Clear Creek Amana High School registered 94% of eligible senior students as part of the Carrie Chapman Catt Award. They are one of 126 high schools who have signed up to participate in the program, and one of 39 high schools who have met the requirements to be awarded the Carrie Chapman Catt Award this year.

The effort was led by High School Social Studies Teacher Eric Brown and Instructional Coach Phil Moss. This is the first time CCA has received the award.

State law allows 17-year-olds to register to vote in Iowa. They can participate in the elections if they are 18 in time for the November general election. Many of the CCA seniors will get their first opportunity to vote in the Nov. 5, 2024, presidential election.
